We’re delighted to be able to partner with Casey Family Programs to offer this session focused on the foster care system. This training will help you to better serve foster children and families in your Head Start, EHS or ECEAP program by helping you to understand the system and your role in it.

By the end of the session you will better understand:

  • How and why children enter the foster care system
  • The range of placements possible for a child, including when and why children may need to move
  • Who are the key players and what are their unique roles in a child’s case
  • Clarity around your role in advocating for and providing support to the child.
  • And more!

1/29 & 2/5/10- Two-part Webinar - Understanding and Meeting the Needs of Children with Autism

Autism is a rapidly growing developmental disorder that currently affects 1 in 100 children born in the United States. As a result, it is essential that ECEAP and Head Start staff understand the complexity of autism and how to best serve the children in their programs who are affected by the disorder, whether they have been formerly diagnosed or not.

This two-part workshop is designed to not only educate participants about autism, but also provide them with specific “tools” to help them work more effectively with children on the autism spectrum.

Topics will include:
? Defining autism

? What children with autism need
? What causes autism

? Classroom set up
? Identifying the three types of autism

? Strategies for managing behaviors in children with autism
? Common characteristics & behaviors

? Communicating concerns to parents

We're looking for a few good trainers!

WSA is trying to put together a trainer notebook. We are trying to find the best trainers you use and any recommendations for good trainers for our conferences. We hope to share the completed notebook with all our members so that your local program can use the notebook to find the best available trainers as well. Please send the names and contacts for trainers to Katy at katy@wsaheadstarteceap.com
