Early Head Start Parent Advocate

 The Opportunity

The Washington State Association of Head Start and ECEAP (WSA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced parent to serve as a part-time Early Head Start Parent Advocate. This is an exciting new opportunity to support our initiative to establish state funding for Early Head Start and the position is funded through a generous grant from the American Heart Association. The Early Head Start Parent Advocate will start on April 1, 2019 and work through December 31, 2019.


Job Responsibilities

The Early Head Start Parent Advocate will be responsible for four main tasks:

  1. Serve as a parent spokesperson for the Early Head Start program;
  2. Set up and help coordinate Early Head Start site visits for state lawmakers during the interim;
  3. Establish a network of 15 to 20 Early Head Start parents that you will train and mobilize when needed;
  4. Be available to participate in the Think Babies Coalition.


Hours Per Week

We envision this person working between 3 to 5 hours per week depending on need. You are not required to come to our office in Bellevue but must be available for a weekly check in phone call. 


WSA will pay the Early Head Start Parent Advocate a flat $300 per month stipend to cover their time and any expenses. The stipend will be paid based on the completion of work.

In order to apply you must be a current or former Early Head Start Parent.   We are looking for someone who is organized, is a great written communicator, and has some computer skills.  You must apply by Wednesday March 6th to be considered.  Ideally you would be able to attend at least one day of the 2019 Parent Ambassador Training March 11-13 in Federal Way.
